Creativity Can Solve Anything

September 12, 2009 by Jake Sloan

A movie made for me?  Why thanks Doug!

This trailer is great, it reminds me of my time at the wonderous Ackerman McQueen.  Especially the quote, “how big do you want the logo sir?”

Check out the trailer below.

WENDY and LUCY

If you get the chance, check this movie out.  I just bought it at the Target store yesterday and watched it today.  Pretty good story.  But what I really liked about it best was how the filmmaker (don’t know who it was) turned a walgreen’s in a shitty town into a pretty aesthetically please set.  I didn’t think it possible.  So, in that aspect.  I now want to buy a camera and start filming in front of Walgreen’s.  Below is a trailer.

1:43 Scale and Smaller

August 29, 2009 by Jake Sloan

Thomas Doyle creates scenes of surreal life on a small scale.  Each scene tells an epic and odd story that speaks loudly to the viewer.  That’s why Doyle’s work caught my eye.  The work is so small, yet the stories are so large.  Check it out, and check out his website.  www.thomasdoyle.net

Honestly I don’t know what to say. I’ve seen some great interactive pieces before, but this guy has the niche on lock down. I’ve attached some images of his works, but visit his website from a more in depth view.

I really like this piece. Super creative plot and amazing visuals. I especially like the shapes used to indicate fire. Check it out.

Show ‘em What’s Lost.

August 11, 2009 by Jake Sloan

I was listening to a random Ted Talk today.  Gordon Brown, covered Wiring the Web for Global Good.  I’m all about that and all, however, I pulled something out of his speech that may have been unintended.  He starts off by showing images that started a movement, and explaining how social movements are made.  My big take away here is, movements are started when we see what is lost.

We see, what’s lost, and know, that doesn’t have to happen.  So we act!

On a local level, here in OKC, if we want to awareness for the arts. We need to start by letting the community know what is lost when our community doesn’t pay attention to the arts. For example, culture is lost, education is lost, and commerce is lost. When we push the community to express culture, OKC recovers the possible losses.

Watch the video, let me know what you think.

Broken Fall (Organic) on Vimeo

This is a video by Bas Jan Ader. He’s pretty freaky, and has a crazy story. He tried to sail the Atlantic in a tiny sail boat. He didn’t succeed. I like him
